GCNU & SWC seek to recruit an outstanding scientist with an interdisciplinary background working at the interface of machine learning and neuroscience or related areas.

We are looking for someone who will conduct creative and innovative research to deliver breakthroughs at the interface of the 2 fields that contribute to an algorithmic understanding of perception, action or learning. The successful applicant will have exciting research plans, and be keen to participate in collaborative and cooperative science.

The Research Group Leader will receive generous core funding, including salary and stipend support for research staff and students.  Extensive high-performance computational resources are available in-house, with funds available for expansion if needed.  If desired, support for experimental work will also be available, including equipment and customised laboratory space, supported by state-of-the-art facilities such as prototyping and fabrication, imaging, virology and histology platforms.

Teaching is limited to research-level postgraduate courses, with the opportunity to design components of the taught programme.

Salaries will be competitive and offered as appropriate to experience and achievement

The role will be funded for six years in the first instance.


Key Requirements

Applicants can come from all independent career stages  They need to have a PhD in neuroscience, machine learning or a related field and postdoctoral  research experience at the time of application. They will be expected to have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the literature in their research fields, be proficient in its application and have a ready ability to acquire and absorb new information, methods and techniques      The ability to build strong collaborative working relationships and an understanding of the mission and research environment of GCNU and SWC is essential.
