We are seeking a researcher with exceptional analytical and communication skills to join our team supporting national health policy decisions about the effective and cost-effective use of medicines and other healthcare technologies.
The Southampton Health Technology Assessments Centre (SHTAC) is a centre of excellence for HTA, with expertise in finding, reviewing and synthesising clinical evidence and in the use of decision modelling and health economics to appraise benefits for patients and value for the National Health Service. We are one of nine Technology Assessment Review (TAR) teams contracted to provide independent and objective reports for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). We also have an active programme of other research, including cost-effectiveness analysis in the context of clinical trials, data analysis and modelling.
SHTAC is part of the Wessex Institute, in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton. Working as part of the health economic team on projects for NICE, you will: critically appraise evidence and models; explore alternative scenarios and uncertainties; write reports and interact with NICE staff, committees and other stakeholders. You will be encouraged and supported to extend your knowledge and skills of relevant methods, to develop your own research interests, to publish high quality reports and papers and to present at local, national and international conferences and meetings. Funding for relevant training is available, and if needed we will support you in completing a part-time post-graduate course.
You will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in economics, statistics, operational research or another analytical discipline. In addition to technical knowledge and skills, you will be a good writer, work effectively in a team and communicate well.
*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
Appointment will be made on the Research Fellow payscale - £30,942 – £38,017 according to experience.
