We wish to appoint a Research Assistant to support an exciting and new research study to evaluate the use of trained volunteers to deliver resistance exercise training for older adults attending community clubs in Hampshire and Dorset. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the research activities of the ImPACt study including participant identification and recruitment; data collection, entry and analysis; preparation and drafting of reports, papers and communications. You will join a multidisciplinary team of enthusiastic clinicians and researchers in Academic Geriatric Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine based at Southampton General Hospital . The study is supported by the Ageing and Dementia theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Wessex and the postholder will work closely and collaboratively with the NIHR ARC Wessex and partner organisations.
The NIHR ARC Wessex conducts applied health research with the aims to improve outcomes for patients and public; improve quality, delivery and efficiency of health and care services; increase the sustainability of health and care systems locally and nationally, through collaborative partnership. It has four thematic programmes of work:
- Ageing and Dementia
- Healthy Communities
- Long Term Conditions
- Workforce & Health systems
You will have relevant PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a relevant area and a keen interest in the field of ageing. Excellent organisational and communication skills are also essential this role, and the ability to travel to selected social clubs in Hampshire and Dorset. This post is part-time (0.8 FTE), funded by NIHR ARC Wessex, for a fixed term period to 31 October 2021. Salary will be determined by qualifications and previous experience.

*Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
