You will join our collaborative team in the area of constrained control systems as part of an NSF-EPSRC funded project. The research will look at developing anti-windup techniques for the constrained control of aircraft and spacecraft, especially landers and satellites, and will seek to take advantage of the special form of their dynamics in order to develop effective algorithms. A key element of the project is to develop algorithms which can be implemented in practice and there will be the possibility of deploying the algorithms on an experimental test-bed.
The successful applicant should have (or shortly be obtaining) a PhD in control systems engineering or a closely related field, ideally in constrained control, robust control or similar. It is vital you have experience in Lyapunov/passivity-based stability analysis. A background in aerospace control would be advantageous. It is essential that you demonstrate the ability to apply sound control theoretic techniques to complex technical problems.
You will be working closely with Dr Matthew Turner at the University of Southampton, UK and also Dr Chris Richards and his team at the University of Louisville, USA. The post is based at Southampton but frequent interaction with Louisville is planned.
The post will be full-time for a period of 24 months, starting from 1st November or as near as possible to that date.
