The HPC Group of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department is looking for a PhD student. We offer one such position in Parallel Computing. Start date: 1st February 2017

You will

  • Study of the behavior, efficiency, and resiliency of parallel computing systems on the operational, application, cost, and performance levels
  • Develop models that capture the behavior of parallel computing systems to facilitate a holistic view and understanding of their behavior; the holistic system model has to be useful for new hardware releases
  • Use monitoring tools throughout the various layers of the computing systems software stack
  • Analyze the massive monitoring data to extract patterns of events and correlations between events
  • Verify and validate the developed models by injecting the same events into a parallel system
  • Employ own and acquire new computer science theoretical, simulation, and experimental skills

 

Requirements

  • A Master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computational Science or Mathematics
  • Good mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills
  • Very good programming skills (C, C++, Java, Python, R, Spark, etc.)
  • Very good knowledge of operating systems, in particular Linux
  • Fluency in English (verbally and in writing), knowledge of German can be a plus
  • High (self-)motivation
  • Strong team-working abilities
  • Ease of interaction in a multicultural environment
