This is a unique opportunity to help shape and grow the Postgraduate Research (PGR) Student community at the University of Bristol. The University of Bristol is one of the most successful comprehensive research-intensive Universities in the UK: the national UK REF exercise (2014) placed Bristol in the top 4 for Research Intensity and it is consistently ranked highly in the top 100 of global research Universities. The PGR community - students, supervisors and support staff - is a key driver for this success. One facet of the community is the large number of nationally-funded centres for Doctoral Training. This new post is central to the establishment and strengthening of an engaged, dynamic, diverse and productive PGR community.

The Bristol Doctoral College ( was created in 2013 to support doctoral research activity and enhance the development of postgraduate researchers at the University of Bristol. The BDC is now in an exciting period of growth to help deliver the new University Strategy and has ambitious plans to develop an outstanding environment for PGR students, and this job is a key component of these plans.

You will be responsible for developing and overseeing a core portfolio of BDC initiatives that will work to enhance the PGR experience by cultivating the best possible environment for postgraduate researchers. This will include:

1. The expansion of training and development for postgraduate researchers;
2. Managing the portfolio of Doctoral Training Centres and Partnerships, providing specialist advice and support;
3. The establishment of a Graduate Teaching Scheme for postgraduate researchers;
4. Leading on BDC plans for a central PGR facility as part of wider developments at the University; and
5. Overseeing BCD communications and engagement.

Additionally, the post holder will work closely with the BDC Director and Manager and research communities to establish in-house Doctoral Training Centres in cross-Faculty areas.

This post is available to start immediately.
