The role

The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Visual and/or Digital Anthropology to lead high quality research and teaching in anthropology, with a particular focus on visual or sensory anthropology or digital anthropology. This position is to start as soon as possible from autumn 2022. Interviews will be held in mid-late September, in-person or online.


What will you be doing?

The Department offers the following degree programmes: BA Anthropology, BA Archaeology & Anthropology, MArts Anthropology with Innovation, MA Anthropology, MPhil and PhD. Your teaching duties will include designing and delivering core units in social anthropology as well as playing a key role in the development of specialist units in visual and/or digital anthropology at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will be expected to have a track record of research in the field commensurate with an appointment at Lecturer level.


You should apply if

You have high quality scholarly publications; have been involved with or developed research projects involving grant capture and have implementable plans for future research. You have excellent teaching skills developed through experience of higher education teaching on undergraduate programmes. You have research and teaching specialism in one or more of the following: visual or sensory anthropology (e.g., film and screen, photography, visual arts) and/or digital anthropology (e.g., digital ethnography, online cultures, social media, gaming, virtual reality, digital cultural heritage).
