At Southampton Law School, our mission is clear: excellence in our education, impact in our research and an international outlook. Currently ranked 20th in the Times League table and a founding member of the Russell Group, we have delivered high quality legal education for over 60 years.
Our research is individual and collective, single discipline and cross-discipline, working collaboratively, nationally and internationally, clustering around our legal research centres, including the Centre for Law, Policy and Society (CLPS), Private and Commercial Law (PCL), Health Ethics and Law (HEAL), the Stefan Cross Centre for Women, Equality and Law (SCC), the inter-disciplinary Centre for Law, Internet and Culture (iClic), and the internationally renowned Institute of Maritime Law (IML).
We’re now looking for a Head of School to drive the next stage of our development, growing our collaborations across China, India, Indonesia and Europe, sharpening our focus on sustainability and building a collegiate School community. You’ll play a central role in furthering our dynamic, supportive learning community, expanding a vibrant student experience that educates tomorrow’s legal experts. You’ll provide the school’s vision and enhance our reputation by working with other university leaders, you’ll also promote teaching excellence throughout the school while overseeing staff appointments, financial decisions and enterprise opportunities.
Taking on a substantive role as a Level 7 Professor, the Head of School responsibilities will approximate to 0.8 FTE, with an initial term of 3 years.
As well as a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications / experience) in a relevant field, you’ll have an international reputation in research with a profile and network to match. You’ll make a substantial contribution to REF 2020, demonstrating proven leadership on research outputs and outreach, including funding. An outstanding track record in education is essential and you’ll be committed to building a first-class student experience and community, putting academic standards and rigor centre-stage. A strong and capable leader, you’ll also deliver a vision for the School consistent with our drive for excellence.

The selection process will be held over two days:
- A presentation to members of the Southampton Law School on the afternoon of Monday 1 June 2020.
- Interviews with the selection panel on the morning of Tuesday 2 June 2020
