The Faculty of Medicine
The University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine is an internationally recognised provider of world-class education and research. The research-intensive Faculty has a gross budget of almost $300 million, employs approximately 1000 continuing and fixed-term staff (headcount), has a community of more than 4000 non-salaried academic appointees and around 3200 students (headcount).
The Faculty of Medicine offers Australia's largest medical degree program for graduates and school-leavers. Undergraduate and postgraduate programs are available in the disciplines of Medicine, Health Sciences, E-Health, Mental Health, Biomedical Sciences and Public Health.
The Australasian Kidney Trials Network (AKTN) is a unit of the Centre for Kidney Disease Research and is located at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba. The AKTN's mission is to coordinate and facilitate high quality investigator-initiated clinical trials to improve the health and wellbeing of people with kidney disease. Funding for the unit is primarily through competitive research grants. The AKTN Biostatistics and Data Management Group provides biostatistical support for clinical trials coordinated by the AKTN and consults and collaborates on research projects external to the AKTN.
The successful applicant will have primary responsibility for statistical programming for screening, cleaning and analysis of data for selected trials co-ordinated by the AKTN and will consult and collaborate as a statistician on other research projects, particularly in nephrology, geriatric medicine, and online health. The appointee will be expected to contribute to administrative tasks in data management and statistics, including the development and revision of standard operating procedures. Other duties include providing statistical review of manuscripts and grant applications and working with data management and trial monitoring staff in data quality assurance and quality control activities.
Applicants should possess a degree with at least four (4) years subsequent experience in the field of statistics, biostatistics or other quantitative discipline or have an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training. You should posess strong SAS and/or Stata programming skills or an ability to rapidly acquire such skills, good knowledge of statistical methods in the design and analysis of clinical research, experience in the preparation and statistical analysis of data in medical or health research, statistical consulting experience, and strong organisation and self-management skills.
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at HEW Level 7 for 12 months with excellent prospects for renewal. The remuneration package will be in the range: $81,883.65 - $89,559.15 p.a. FTE, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,803.87 - $104,784.20 p.a. FTE).
