The University of Nottingham, described by The Sunday Times University Guide 2011 as ‘the embodiment of the modern international university’, has award-winning campuses in the United Kingdom, China and Malaysia.

It is ranked in the UK's Top 10 and the World's Top 75 universities by the Shanghai Jiao Tong (SJTU) and the QS World University Rankings, placing it in the top 1% of all universities worldwide. In 2011 it climbed rankings published in the Complete University Guide, the Guardian University Guide, and The Times Good University Guide.

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) works with higher education institutions to define, safeguard and improve academic standards and the quality of higher education in the UK.

In the most recent QAA Institutional Audit (2016) the University was recognised as a provider of high quality and standards with the award of the Quality Mark. The review highlighted good practice in five areas, including opportunities for student employability and the Transforming Teaching Programme.

The University of Nottingham has been recognised as delivering a Gold standard in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), which aims to recognise and reward excellent learning and teaching. Based on the evidence available, the TEF Panel judged that the University delivers consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students. It is of the highest quality found in the UK. The award is for the institution as a whole, and will be valid for up to three years from June 2017.

RAE is the UK's definitive guide to research quality and excellence, ranking all universities on research strength and rating the academic disciplines they submit on the basis of their international standing.

Measured by means of quality - averaging the research carried out within a discipline, but not including the number of researchers working within that field - and research power - taking into account both quality and the number of academics within a discipline - Nottingham's status was again confirmed as a world-class institution.

No.7 in UK for research power

In addition to scoring highly in quality rankings covering major disciplines in science, engineering, the social sciences, business and the arts, it is Nottingham's increase in research power rankings which demonstrate the impressive volume of excellent research which is carried out here. We are now ranked in the Top 7 of all British universities and are one of only two institutions to move into the UK Top 10 since 2001 - an increase of seven places, making us the highest mover of any university.

Nottingham submitted one of the highest numbers of research areas for assessment and 91% of research staff - a testament to our confidence in the international calibre of our academics and the breadth of excellence to be found amongst our staff and students.

90% of research at international standard

Following the RAE results, 90% of all research at Nottingham has been classified of an 'international standard' and 60% as 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'.

The Times Good University Guide 2017 states:

"Nottingham is back in our top 20 after moving up five places this year, due mainly to a significant increase in student satisfaction. It is the biggest rise among the leading group of universities and enough to earn a shortlisting for our University of the Year award.

A member of the Russell Group, Nottingham has award-winning campuses in China and Malaysia as well as 330 acres of parkland in its home city, one of the most attractive university settings in the UK."
