Northumbria University

United Kingdom

Northumbria is a research-rich, business-focused, professional university with a global reputation for academic excellence.

The University has its origins in the Rutherford College, founded in 1880. Today, by putting students at the heart of an outstanding experience, and with world leading research and award-winning partnerships, Northumbria is a new kind of excellent university.

Northumbria is top ten in the UK for the number of graduates entering professional employment and nine out of ten of our graduates are working or studying six months after graduation. We are ranked 21st out of 111 universities in the 2014 Times Higher Education Student Satisfaction Survey.

Northumbria works with major employers, including Nike, IBM, Nissan, Proctor & Gamble, the BBC, and the NHS, while more than 560 employers and 60 professional bodies sponsor or accredit the University’s programmes.  Innovative and entrepreneurial, we are also ranked fourth in the UK for graduate business start-ups.

We have a campus in London as well as Newcastle, and work in partnership with other higher education institutions across the world attracting students from 136 countries...

Our staff

Our students learn from the best – inspirational academic staff with a genuine passion for their subject. Our courses are at the forefront of current knowledge and practice and are shaped by world-leading and internationally excellent research.

Our staff's talent is also recognised by others.  Northumbria is now rated in the top 20 in the UK in eleven subjects, and in the top five in three subjects, by the Complete University Guide 2015.

Between 2008 and 2014 we doubled the number of our academic staff submitted for research assessment. We encourage early-career researchers and have a distinctive appeal based on academic excellence, entrepreneurialism and innovation. Our academics balance teaching, research and working with external organisations.

Our professional staff ensure the smooth delivery of the University’s activities. Their work contributes to an outstanding student experience, supports research and underpins successful partnerships and collaborative working with external organisations.

Work for Northumbria University

When you join us at Northumbria University, you will become part of an organisation that creates and applies knowledge that transforms lives and makes a powerful cultural and economic impact.

Don't believe us? Then just consider that this is the University that boasts the current senior vice-president of design at Apple and lead designer behind both the iPhone and the iPad among its alumni - two of the most revolutionary consumer products of the last decade.

Other universities might make such a boast and sit back and relax. Not Northumbria.
