National University of Singapore

Asian and global. Innovative and future-ready.

A leading global university centred in Asia, the National University of Singapore (NUS) was founded in 1905 as a modest medical college with 23 students. Today, Singapore’s flagship university spans three campuses in Kent Ridge, Bukit Timah and Outram, and is widely seen as among the best universities in Asia and the world.

NUS offers a distinctively Asian and global experience that is grounded in maximising the potential of students and their future-readiness, and broad-based research excellence that enables beneficial translation.

Renowned for pioneering new models of education, the University is also highly regarded for the hallmark rigour and breadth of its academic programmes, innovative entrepreneurship education, and experiential learning.

An NUS education includes learning from top professors in their fields, international opportunities with top overseas universities, internships with industry leaders at home and abroad, and projects that examine real-world issues. Our rigorous academic programmes empower students to think critically across disciplines, and foster a resourceful and enterprising spirit. They also inspire them to be constructive and responsible members of the community as well as global citizens.

From ageing and translational medicine, finance and quantum technologies, to the environment and urbanisation, NUS researchers search for discoveries and solutions to improve life in Asia and the world.

Our strategy targets high-level research over a broad base from which several peaks of excellence naturally arise. We collaborate with government, industry, NGOs and leading academic partners to ensure that NUS research consistently addresses real-world issues.

NUS is renowned internationally for high-calibre and innovative research in engineering, science and technology, biomedical sciences, and the humanities and social sciences. In support of Singapore’s plans to become the world’s first smart nation, we have dedicated a smart nation research cluster that focuses on big data from different sectors, optimising results obtained from this analysis, and maximising cybersecurity.
