Federation University Australia is a public university headquartered in the regional Victorian city of Ballarat, it is one of Australia’s leading regional universities with campuses throughout regional Victoria, outer Melbourne metro and interstate, in addition to a network of partner-provider institutions that deliver our programs around the globe.

The university is renowned for being accessible, inclusive, supportive and empathetic in its connection to their domestic and international students, especially those who are first-in-family to attend university. This reputation is reflected in the University’s growth in Indigenous students, those students from regional and rural areas and low SES students.

There is a wide range of study areas including business, education, engineering, information technology, nursing and healthcare, performing and visual arts, psychology, science and mathematics and sport, outdoor and physical education. 

They have a diverse community with over 24,000 domestic and international students and 110,000 alumni across Australia and the world. The university is creating a Federation of independent thinkers, of like-minded individuals who are determined to make their mark.

 

History

Five years young. 150 years' experience. With both university and TAFE campuses in Ballarat, Berwick, Brisbane, Gippsland and the Wimmera, in 2014 Federation University Australia was formed – a new entity bringing together almost 150 years of history from our predecessor institutions. 

As a young university, they have the energy and optimism of youth combined with the knowledge and experience that comes from their history as one of the oldest universities in Australia, dating back to 1870.

 

 

Facilities

All campuses have access to FedUni’s well-stocked, contemporary libraries and information technology services, with wi-fi on campus.

UniSports at Mt Helen campus offers an exciting range of recreation, education and health programs with fully qualified and experienced staff. Facilities include swimming pool, gym/swim memberships, tennis and squash courts, dance studio, basketball court, sport and recreation centre, outdoor sports field and so much more.

Bookshops, hairdressers and travel services are also available for staff to access.

FedUni is a smoke free environment.

Research

Research addresses issues of national and international significance, with particular focus on matters of regional relevance. Federation University Australia researchers collaborate with leading universities, research bodies and industries in Australia and overseas.

Research degrees are offered across all disciplines. Research at Federation University Australia focuses on addressing both theoretical and applied questions which have direct benefits for industry, government and society as a whole
